Dr Ekström took his Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1987 at the Stockholm University, after which he spent three years at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) doing molecular biology research. After his return to Sweden in 1990, he started... his own research on growth factor regulation which ended up in work on the new field of epigenetics.
Dr Ekström has worked on epigenetic aspects in many fields such as cancer, alcoholism, psychiatric disorders and rheumatoid arthritis. His scientific contribution to the epigenetics of autoimmune disease has been internationally renowned, and has paved the way for better understanding the interplay between epigenetic mechanisms and the underlying genetic primary DNA code.

Dr Kai-Uwe Schlaudraff

Dr Kai-Uwe Schlaudraff graduated from Medical School at the University of Freiburg where he received his MD degree in fundamental and clinical research on angiogenesis and growth factors in cardiovascular surgery. After having trained in London and Paris he completed his general surgery residency in Basel and received his training in plastic surgery as a resident and registrar at the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG).
He currently practices in his private clinic in Geneva with a special clinical interest in body contouring through VASER ultrasound assisted liposuction as well as breast surgery. Dr Schlaudraff is part of various research projects and clinical work with a focus on adipose derived stem cells, fat grafting and regenerative treatments for face, body and hair.
As a medical consultant Dr Schlaudraff is also working with start-up companies and major industry partners in the development of innovative treatments in plastic surgery.
Dr Schlaudraff is Board Certified by the Swiss (FMH) and the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and is a member of the Swiss (SSCPRE), American (ASAPS) and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) as well as a member of the Swiss Aesthetic Surgery Society (SSCE) and was invited to join the International Consortium of Plastic Aesthetic Surgeons (ICAPS).
He has been invited to 300+ scientific lectures at Swiss, European and International congresses and was appointed Treasurer of the International Society of Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). He also is Section Editor of the international journal 'Aesthetic Plastic Surgery' for fat grafting and stem cell research and is member of the Scientific Board of the Swiss Stem Cell Foundation (SSCF). He was appointed Governor of the Aesthetic Stem Cell Society and awarded keynote lectures on adipose stem cells by the Japanese Society of Plastic Surgery (JSAPS) and the Oriental Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (OSAPS).
Dr Schlaudraff is proud to be a clinical contributor in the Swiss team of scientists from Bart Deplancke’s lab at EPFL, Christian Wolfrum’s lab at ETHZ, and the Swiss Stem Cell Foundation whose study was published in Nature in June 2018: "A stromal cell population that inhibits adipogenesis in mammalian fat depots". This milestone study has discovered a new cell type called “Aregs” for “adipogenesis-regulatory cells” that is found in the mature fat depots of the body where it can actively inhibit the formation of fat cells. The discovery provides the hope that “Aregs” may open entirely new avenues to fight obesity and related metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
Recently, Dr Schlaudraff was re-elected member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Society of Aesthetic Surgery and is nominated for re-election as Treasurer of ISAPS.
